Parents

We at Independence Science want to provide you the parent with the information, technologies, and services you need so that your child can have a more hands-on laboratory experience. Through our many consulting services, we can work with you and your school district, or other service provider to develop viable accommodation solutions for your child to have a, “hands-on laboratory experience.” It is our belief that by providing a student with a more hands-on laboratory experience, this will inspire them to have a more active learning experience and encourage him or her to pursue a career path in the science technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions. With the acquisition of assistive technologies and other support services Independent Sciences works with each customer to assist in providing ADA accommodations for students who are BLV in the science laboratory classroom. It is our hope to change the societal paradigm of a passive learning approach, which is seen far too often when a student who is BLV is paired with a sighted partner who acts as the eyes and ears of the BLV student. Through our technology and services, we wish to instill a sense of empowerment and autonomy for students who are BLV, thereby substantially increasing their learning experience. We would be happy to make technology and other resource recommendations to your IEP team that will enable you to provide the best science laboratory experience possible for your child.
